

On 6 July 2026, the new Chairperson, Paata Keshelava, was introduced to the members and staff of the Supreme Election Commission of Ajara.
In his address, Paata Keshelava focused on the fundamental principles guiding the electoral administration and outlined its future priorities. He emphasised that leading the Supreme Election Commission of Ajara, as an independent constitutional body, is both a great honour and a significant responsibility. He noted that, together with the Commission's team, he is committed to fulfilling this responsibility through effective, professional, and results-oriented work.
The newly appointed Chairperson further stated that the Commission's key priorities would be to ensure high-quality election administration, maintain the highest level of transparency, and, within the scope of its legal mandate, promote equal opportunities for all participants in the electoral process.
Paata Keshelava underscored that the electoral administration's greatest asset is public trust, built on the rule of law, political neutrality, impartiality, and professionalism. According to him, these principles will guide the Commission's work. At the same time, its relations with the media, the public, and all electoral stakeholders will be based on openness, transparency, and equal treatment. The Chairperson also noted that, in close coordination with the Central Election Commission of Georgia (CEC), the Commission will ensure that the elections to the Supreme Council of Adjara are organised and conducted in full compliance with the applicable legislation and international standards.
During his address, Paata Keshelava paid special tribute to the former Chairperson, Parmen Jalagonia, acknowledging his many years of dedicated service and his significant contribution to the development of the Supreme Election Commission of Ajara. The new Chairperson said the transfer of authority reflects a strong institutional culture that values respect for institutional continuity, legacy, and accumulated experience.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Chairperson of the Supreme Election Commission of Adjara expressed his sincere gratitude to the Commission members and staff for their warm welcome. He also expressed confidence that, through professionalism, mutual respect, and joint efforts, the Commission will continue to fulfil successfully the important mission entrusted to it by law.
