Information Meeting

On October 4, the Supreme Election Commission and LEPL Centre for Electoral Systems Development, Reforms and Training (Training Center), in partnership with the Central Election Commission of Georgia (CEC) conducted informational meetings with female representatives of political parties registered for the elections. The Chairman of the Higher Election Commission of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Parmen Jalaghonia, and the Director of the Centre for Election Systems Development, Reforms and Training, Natia Zaalishvili opened the event. They briefed about the importance of strengthening mechanisms for the development of electoral opportunities to promote the active involvement of women in electoral processes.

Following the strategic task, within the framework of the thematically developed informational training program, the expert trainers of the Training Centre discussed the following main issues with female representatives of political parties: the importance of women's participation in the electoral process; examples of successful women in electoral/political life; gender stereotypes, gender-based discrimination, hate speech, cyber-harassment and the tools provided by international practice to overcome them. Focusing on raising electoral awareness, technological innovations provided by the electoral reform were also discussed at the meeting. The participants were directly involved in the mock voting process using electronic devices.

Representatives of political parties registered for the elections of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara and women actively involved in public politics attended the informational meeting.
