Information Meetings for Deaf Voters

The Election Administration (EA) continues its large-scale campaign regarding electronic elections.
On July 10, The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia and the Supreme Election Commission of Ajara (SEC), in cooperation with the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) organised information meetings for deaf voters.
Gender, Equality and Inclusion Manager at IFES (The International Foundation for Electoral Systems), Miranda Tkabladze, The Chairperson of SEC, Parmen Jalaghonia, the head of the Strategic Planning And Reporting Department, the head person of Working Group On PWDs Issues, Sophio Sitchinava, Chairperson of the Gender Equality Council, Member of the Supreme Council, Phati Khalvashi and the Chairperson of Union of the Deaf of Georgia, Amiran Batatunashvili made the opening remarks.
The preparatory process for the 2024 Parliamentary Elections,technological novelties and the importance of an inclusive electoral environment were discussed at the meeting.

A demonstration of electronic voting technologies and a simulation of voting took place at the meeting. The meeting participants had an opportunity to firsthand experience how the verification and vote-counting devices function in practice.

Also, the roadmap on electoral participation was disseminated in the Easy-Read format, accompanied by the QR code. The latter allows the deaf voters to access the information in the sign language, while the blind voters may gain it in the audio format.
